New 20 litre and 30 litre compact 12 volt drawer fridge freezers from Vitrifrigo

All new compact 12 volt drawer refrigerators from Vitrifrigo are available in two sizes 20 litre and 30 litres and can run as either a fridge between 0-8C or a freezer at -10C .

Versatile use with Compact Dimensions

With dimensions of just 250mm high by 440mm wide and 445mm deep (20 litre drawer excluding the de-mountable compressor – see table below) you can fit a 12 volt compact drawer fridge in the smallest tightest of loactions. For greater versatility or to optimise your installation the compressor and cooling unit can be removed from the back of the drawer and mounted remotely up to 1.5m from the drawer. This gives greater flexibility allowing you to locate the drawer where you want it and the compressor in area where there is better ventilation or more sound proofing.

Elegantly styled they are available in either black or white to match your interior styling with a central chrome handle. They can run as either fridge or freezer with a fridge temperature range of between 8° to 0°C or as a freezer down to -10°C.

The drawer is latched closed using two side catches for greater security, opened using the central chrome handle. The positive side latches ensure the drawer cannot open even in rough seas or when driving over rough terrain or cornering in a vehicle or motorhome.

Accurate temperature control and super power efficient

Accurate temperature control is via Vitrifrigo’s own electronic thermostat. The thermostat has also has 4 setting for fridge and freezer and a special Night Mode allowing the drawer to run quieter and more economically.

Both the 20 and 30 litre 12 volt fridge drawers use the latest BD35 compressor designed to run on environmentally friendly R600 refrigerant, which is good for both power consumption and the environment. The cooling unit is an aluminium finned condenser giving the best performance even in high ambient conditions of up to 40°C – typically running as fridge for more than three days on a 100A/h leisure battery in UK summertime.

RP Motorhome’s new Rebellion is the ultimate overland, all terrain, off grid vehicle. The 7.0m Mercedes Benz V6 4×4 panel van conversion is designed to operate in the harshest of environments, with every fitting and feature chosen for longevity and reliability.

“The Rebellion is the ultimate off-grid motorhome,” says Steve Young of RP Motorhomes. “Its users need to be totally self-sufficient, so we’ve done a lot of research to ensure that every component will withstand the toughest environment.”
Working closely with Wave International’s UK supplier Penguin, RP Motorhomes selected the Flostream Micro HIFLO 10 water filter to provide clean, safe and fresh tasting drinking water in the Rebellion. Fitted between the vehicle’s two 100 litre onboard water tanks and the galley taps, the Flostream Micro HIFLO 10 provides a mighty 10 litres per minute flow rate of fresh and clean filtered water.
“We did thorough research on the range of water filters available, and the Flostream Micro came out best in terms of its fast flow rate, compact size, strength and durability, and the easy-to-replace sophisticated cartridge filters,” says Steve.
The Flostream Micro HIFLO 10 multi-media cartridge filters remove all impurities down to 10 microns. For comparison, a human hair is 50 microns in diameter, and anything below 40 microns is invisible to the human eye.

The combination of filters within the Flostream ensure that all chlorine taste and bad odour is removed, as well as heavy metals and other impurities. In addition, with its built-in bacteriostatic control, the Flostream removes cyst and harmful bacteria, and prevents any risk of micro-bacterial growth when the water filter is not in use.
“For a vehicle which may be spending many months off grid, the Flostream will significantly improve the taste and quality of water coming from the tank, no matter how long the water has been stored there or how poor the original source. We will recommend that users carry replacement filters with them, and we will also replace filters during the annual habitation check service that we carry out,” says Steve.

A key feature in the selection of the Flostream Micro HiFLO10 was its compact size. Measuring just 169mm by 133mm, RP Motorhomes says another key advantage was the easy installation into a compact space, using the integral housing bracket and 0.75 inch British Standard Pipe thread or 15mm push fit piping connector.

The Flostream Micro HIFLO10 water filter has been specifically designed to suit the needs of caravans, motorhomes and service vehicles. Designed to be as compact as possible, the Flostream Micro HIFLO 10 provides a mighty 10 litres per minute flow rate of fresh and clean filtered water.

Using a water filter in caravans, motorhomes, and other service vehicles such as horseboxes and welfare vehicles avoids the need to carry single use plastic water bottles to ensure clean and fresh water. The weather was hot hot hot – hitting 40 degrees C on Friday! and we were delighted that the full C51i fridge fitted in the Tiree ran happily all weekend with the 100W solar panel fitted on the roof providing more than enough power to the batteries to keep the fridge running with lots of ice for our drinks! Although it was almost too hot at times, the weather really allowed us to show how well Vitrifrigo fridges perform, especially in tropical conditions.

Also on display for the first time was Vitrifrigo’s all new TL43 12 volt top opening fridge/freezer. Designed to fit in a 400mm work top it is ideal for side kitchen units in campervans. It proved to be a perfect fit on the Evo Design VW T6 short wheel base kitchen, infact it looked like it had been designed for the job. Healthy and tasty drinking water with Wave Flostream water filters

Many motorhome users carry bottled water or bulky water storage containers for their fresh drinking water rather than using the tank and tap. This is often because water from the vehicle’s tank tastes bad, and also has the risk of containing bacteria and bugs.

Now there’s a solution with the Flostream water filter. What is the most efficient 12 volt compressor fridge?

We have long maintained that Vitrifrigo fridges are the most power efficient 12 volt compressor fridges on the market so imagine how pleased we were when we found this test report from Magnum Motorhomes.

Lee at Magnum Motorhomes has been selling 12 volt compressor fridges for campervans and motorhomes for many years and understands the best way to specify and install them correctly. One question he is continually asked is which fridge is best? Specifically, which 12 volt compressor fridge will give them the best cooling and last longest on their 12V leisure battery.

To find out Lee decided to run his own test on three of the fridges that Magnum Motorhomes sell – the Dometic CRX50, our Vitrifrigo C51i and the Chinese DC-50. The test was simple and straightforward, running all three fridges on their maximum thermostat setting at the same time from their own fully charged 110A/H battery. Thermometers were used to record the temperature from the middle of the fridge and the freezer compartment of each the 12V fridges and the battery voltage was checked throughout the test.

The results

12 Volt Battery consumption

The battery level on the Vitrifrigo C51i remained the highest of the three fridges tested, reaching temperature quickest it cycled on and off twice on the maximum thermostat setting with the battery condition remaining closest to 12.5V.

Temperature performance

The Vitrifrigo C51i cooled fastest and stayed the coldest in the fridge, with the freezer compartment maintaining a temperature below -18⁰C. The Dometic CRX50 took the longest to cool down and ran continuously the entire hour with the fridge temperature failing to get to 4⁰C, although the freezer was at -24⁰C. The DC-50 took 48 minutes to reach temperature 4⁰C on the thermostat with the freezer at -24⁰C. It also appeared to have the largest variation in temperature on the thermostat with the freezer temperature rising to -13.7⁰C with the fridge temperature continuing to drop to 1.2⁰C.

Conclusions

The Vitrifrigo C51i clearly outperformed in this test of 12 volt compressor fridges in both the speed and efficiency of cooling and power consumption. It reached temperature faster, cycling on and off on the thermostat twice in the one hour test period and the condition of the battery remained higher than the other two fridges tested.

Although Dometic claim their CRX 50 is 25% more efficient, in this test by Magnum Motorhomes, the Dometic CRX proved to be less efficient in terms of both cooling time and battery draw than either the Vitrifrigo C51i or the DC-50. (if you read the small print the 25% increase in efficiency they claim is actually compared to the old Waeco CR50, which we know was a really power hungry fridge).

This means the fridge freezer can fit close to the internal side of the van allowing you to give a wider space infront of the fridge. To further maximise the volume of the Vitrifrigo SLIM150 the compressor is separate to the cabinet, supplied pre-charged with couplings, allowing it to be remotely mounted and then connected to the cabinet once installed.

Compact Dimensions of the Vitrifrigo SLIM150

The main fridge with internal freezer compartment sits above a drawer fridge below. The fridge has an internal LED light, two ‘lock in’ shelves with fiddle upstands (plus the dividing shelf between the fridge and drawer below). The 16 litre insulated internal freezer box is 3 star rated. The drawer internals are manufactured in stainless steel with heavy duty stainless steel runners. The internal height of the drawer is 365mm making it ideal for storage of large drinks bottles. The SLIM150 doors use Vitrifrigo’s innovative AIRLOCK catch system and both doors have a vent position to prevent unpleasant odors when the fridge is turned off.

The Vitrifrigo SLIM150 is controlled by an LED thermostat, with a graduated light to show how cold the temperature is set. It also has a fast chill boost setting to bring the fridge freezer down to temperature quicker and a night mode when the compressor is switched to its economy mode and the noise is minimised. The Vitrifrigo SLIM150 is powered with a BD50 12/24 volt compressor, which can be easily upgraded to 12/24V and 110/240V.
